Radio Interview and In-Studio Performances with Achilles Tenderloin, January 31, 2016
Sunday evening, I had the pleasure of an hour in the studio at WECI 91.5 FM with Steve Cleaver and Charles Ramsey on Leave it to Cleaver. We played music, had great conversation, and even heard a little poetry from Steve himself! Use the player below to stream the recorded show, or click here to visit the track on Soundcloud.
Amid conversation on a wide range of topics, I played four Achilles Tenderloin tunes, including two new songs which will appear on my forthcoming recording project, Snakes & Ladders (more on that later!). The four songs I played (click titles for lyrics) were Little Girl Blue, Cold Morning, Howling at the Earth, and a currently untitled song about not taking advice from dead people.
I’m still surprised how much ground we were able to cover in just one hour! We talked about the story behind the Achilles Tenderloin name, family history, early musical influences, movies, the writing process, catharsis, and poetic truth.
We also discussed radio and Richmond’s live music scene, including the few active local concert series hosted by Achilles Tenderloin: Lyricists’ Corner at New Boswell, Wooden Blues at Noble Order, and Songwriter Row at Rose City Coffee Co-op on Earlham College campus.
I had a great time in the studio! Thanks, Steve and Charles, for having me on the show and letting me share the audio with my friends, here on achillestenderloin.com.
